Final Se7en Deadly sins
Finally I decided not to use the Vampire theme that I came up for all my Se7en Deadly sins due to the fact that it was difficult to organize the custome, fangs, make up and other props and also it was huge risk as I had to do lots of editing even after the photos were taken. My final Theme would be to make my Se7en deadly sins black and white which I got inspired after looking at some of the master pieces of Jane Bown a well know potrait photographer.I wanted to use Metallic Black and White in my works due to the fact that Sins are usually represented as dark and evil which is usually represented by color Black also making all my pictures black and white and this would also help to potray my pictures as the olden times where women were considered more sinful then mens. Also adding props in every sin would add more life to my composition.
Model :- I decided to use women in all of the seven deadly sins due to the fact that women were cosidered more sinful then men for over hundreds of years from now.
Gluttony : Gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. This image below supports this point due to the maily the way she is drinking from three glasses recklessly at the same time which shows her inner sin of greed and hunger. I used black and white theme in this picture first because of the inspiration got from jane bown who used black and white in all her potrait pictures and secondly due to the fact that it is a sin and sins are usally regarded as dark and evil. This picture bleow also supports Aquinas's list of six ways to commit gluttony, including:
- Praepropere - eating too soon.
- Laute - eating too expensively.
- Nimis - eating too much.
- Ardenter - eating too eagerly (burningly).
- Studiose - eating too daintily (keenly).
- Forente - eating wildly (boringly).
Wrath : This is my best picture from all my Seven deadly sins because of how the blood around her face, hands and knife are sharp, and reflects to the sin Wrath. I decided to use knife as the prop for this sin due to the fact that knifes are usually used to represent Violence, murder or death which adds more dimension to this picture to represent Wrath.Black usually represents Dark and evil, due to which using black and white in this picture adds more to the sin warth.
Sloth: Sloth is generally regarded as some one being lazy and not bothering character. This is one of my favorite pictures because of the lightining and position of the model in the picture. The bright Natural lighting of Sun near her head which shows that it is early afternoon and she is still sleeping chair in lazy position holding an apple that she had eaten. I tried to show sloth in this picture as a girl sleeping recklessly in chair with still apple in her hands which she didnt bother to throw in bin due to her laziness. Her messed up hair and make up also defines her character in this picture.
Greed: Greed is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire and pursuit of wealth, status, and power. In this picture I have represented greed as some one who wants more and more and in a selfish manner.Greedy eyes with greedy vision. The image below shows her drinking one glass and still eyeing at others and grabing it, this shows her total selfishness and greed. The picture is trying to tell the audience that She has a greedy eyes with greedy vision who is not satisfied with what she's got and she wants more and more.
Envy:Envy may characterized by an insatiable desire, the sin of envy resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it. In this picture I have presented the apple which is usually usead as envious object in many things and also due to the fact that apple is a rich fruit, and the eyes are looking at the apple with an evious look which makes her look jelous and wanting it. which belongs to some one else. The primary theme about this picture was to show the model wanting some thing which is not hers.
Pride : Pride is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to acknowledge the good work of others, and excessive love of self (especially holding self out of proper position toward God). Firstly I decided to take the photo using low angle shot as it show the power, pride and strength of the person. The use of mirror in this picture symbolizes love for herself. In this picture I have tried to show the person's inner sin of trying to be some one who she is not using make up. I like the lightining in this picture and the shapness of the lipsticks and the lips which adds more complextion to the picture.
Lust : Lust is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. In this picture I have tried to be less obious in this sin where I have used the lips and red wine as the main things to show the sin. Lips are usually related to kissing due to which I tried to focus on lips for this sin. Also in the glass there is lipstick kiss marks, which I did to add more dimension to sin Lust.
Evaluation
Seven deadly sins was one of the most challenging projects during the whole AS- Photography. During this project my time management was the better than any other projects. I had enough time to manage my props, planning, photo session and editing due to which I believe this project is one of my strong project in the whole coursework. I worked very hard in this project and I am very happy with how this project turned out. This was the first project where Photoshop was heavily involved due to which I had to learn photoshop from basics and by the end of this project I was well comfortable with this software.
