Peter Scholey
Above is the one of the photography of Peter Scholey in which he has captured the currencies of two countries as one. I would describe this photograph as cultural because the money is shown in different currencies. Even though you cannot see the whole of the image you can still tell what currency it is, because it is known all around the world. The notes are dollars and the coins and pounds. This in a way represents both uk and us as an independent countries living in their own way. So this could also mean that the photograph is controversial as it is showing two different countries in one image. This is a full colour image, with subtle and muted colours. I feel that the colours are well suited as they are very calm. By having the two main colours subtle, it takes away the fact that they are from two different countries, as it looks as if they go very well together by the audience.
The light source in this photograph is artificial. The light is coming from the right of the photograph as only the front part of the note and coins are bright. The back of the photograph is darker which also shows depth of field. The lighting of the photograph is soft as it is not bright and harsh against the viewer’s eye.
The composition of the photograph is slightly unbalanced as it is weighted to the bottom and the right of the image. It is been taken from a high viewpoint with a close up lens as you can see very close detail. There is a standard perspective in the image.
I feel that Peter Scholey is trying to communicate with the audience by showing that countries around the world can be one, because he is showing the currency of England and America as one.
I think that by having a close up image it shows very fine detail of the objects that people do not generally look closely at. For example the writing on the coins is very fine which allows the viewer to read what it says as when you are handling the money you did not pay attention to the writing. Also the design around the edge of the note shows all of the fine lines that make up the pattern. This makes the photograph look more interesting to look at. So I fell that the best feature of the photograph is having it close up because of all of the detail.
I feel the strongest element in the photograph is the writing on the coins as it stands out and allows the viewer to see the writing clearly. Another reason this stands out it because not many people read the small writing so allows them to look at the photograph in a different way.
